Features of the Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium Portable Power Station

Pure sine wave AC power guarantees clean signal for delicate electronics and fussy power hungry devices.  The inverter smooths out the signal and delivers clean usable power at the two AC power plugs.

Goal Zero offers a wide selection of compatible solar panels.  The various Nomad and Boulder solar arrays can charge your  Goal ZeroYeti 400 in as little as 5-8 hours with the Boulder 200, or if you’re not in as much of a hurry, the Boulder 100 or Nomad 100 will charge you up in 8-16 hours.  Sun exposure dependent of course…

This unit’s user replaceable LiPo battery means that when the years go by and you eventually cycle this battery past its capabilities, you won’t have a dead brick on your hands that gets tossed in the recycle bin.  Goal Zero’s Yeti 400 has a simple battery pack replacement system that brings your remote power station back to life and providing that critical power for you once again.

Pros and Cons of the Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium Portable Power Station

goal zero yeti 400Researching portable power stations, we’ve come across the good, the bad, and the mediocre.  You always have to read past the fringe on the edge and get to the heart of the reviews.  Here are some pros and cons to consider on the Goal Zero Yeti 400.

  • One size never fits all and the ability to purchase a smaller power station for smaller needs makes this a great portable option for those not running large appliances and just needing a little remote power.
  • All reports come back that this unit charges up fast when connected to AC power. From nearly full discharge to full capacity in eight hours means this can be charged up overnight and used all day.
  • 1200W surge is a critical bonus on the AC power side of the house. Mini fridges and other fans and motors may run below the specified wattage but the initial surge may be over the limit.  The Goal Zero Yeti 400 allows for 1200W surge on its 300W AC outputs.

  • Solar panel charging is a major draw for these small form power stations and the Goal Zero Yeti 400 performs nicely, but the Goal Zero brand has proprietary plugs on their panels so you stay on brand and can’t purchase other panels.
  • Manufacturer reporting claims a full charge from solar panels in four hours. Users report a much longer charging time from solar panels, in the “all day” range.

Our Verdict

goal zero yeti 400It’s difficult to find any reason not to recommend this product as a great purchase.

Its only flaw appears to be the exclusivity and consequent poor solar performance but if you’re charging this up from AC power, you’d be hard pressed to find a better portable power station than this one.
